Losing grip – Fawkes comes alive
G’day people and should or not it’s a contented one! A great way for me to make any day higher, is to color. Case in level: I’ve extra painted RC our bodies than I’ve chassis to suit them on. Currently on my work desk (effectively, outdoors eating desk) is the physique of my VS4-10 Phoenix. According to non-public naming custom I’ve determined to name it Fawkes. Considering he’s a phoenix, it’s not more than becoming that I’m already planning to color a second physique for him.
One physique at a time although, and for the primary one I made a decision to do a reasonably fast job of it, simply to get it operating. The pure color alternative would after all be pink, so I went for blue and orange. Sounds bizarre? It’s not: complimentary colors, on reverse sides of the color wheel for top distinction. Also, I received me some Vanquish wheels for this construct, blue strategies with orange inside rings.
A basic observe and warning on Vanquish wheels: good trying, nice high quality, however low worth for the cash. Wheels, blue headlock rings, orange inside rings, scale hubs and scale {hardware}: it actually provides up!
Anyway, my new (once more!) methodology of portray panel strains didn’t work out – after I eliminated the masking tape the strains got here with it – so I began over by masking all the inside, sparing the outlines of the home windows and the fenders, then spraying it black. Tamiya rattle can, refreshing after having used airbrush completely for the previous 5 our bodies or so.
At this stage I solely had a really primary concept of the design, however determined to only get going and determine it out on the best way. The primary concept was this: blue physique with an orange stripe on the facet, with blue and orange hues matching the color of the wheels, and a few child of graphic on the hood invoking the concept of a phoenix. In the image above you possibly can see how I attempted out a few totally different blues on random items of clear plastic. It’s totally different combos of Tamiya metallic blue (PS16), tamiya darkish metallic blue (PS59) and black and silver backings.
For the phoenix graphic I simply couldn’t be bothered doing one thing on the pc, that might take an excessive amount of time. I had a go searching and received an concept: the Vanquish brand on the field the equipment got here in. Could I make that work? Turning it into schematic wings? I favored the concept of preserving issues easy, so I had a go together with my exacto knife: slicing out the emblem, tracing it onto the hood, overlaying it with strips of masking tape, extra slicing and at last eradicating each second strip for one thing that, with a bit of excellent will and fantasy, can signify wings.
I then did a fast job of slicing out the title Fawkes in masking tape. I simply freehanded it, once more very consciously deciding to only get issues executed. That it appears as if a three-year-old did it’s wonderful with me, on this case. It fits the title, methinks.
And similar to that: tadaa! Time to hit it with the blue and orange, making an attempt to match these wheels. More on that subsequent week. Have one!
