Monster Truck Madness – Gun Metal Blues
Good day everybody and Happy Thursday- we’re virtually to the weekend!
Over the final month or so I really feel like I’ve not pulled very a lot set off, save for a single monster truck race day, however I really feel about as busy as ever resulting from consistently engaged on varied initiatives. The one I’m targeted on completed first is my RC4WD K10 Scottsdale refresh.
After almost two months of claiming I’d paint it, I lastly have performed simply that. Well, type of. More on that in a minute.
For these of you seeking to paint your new RC4WD sq. physique, it most positively might be performed simply remember that you’ll want to both be superb with masking tape or superb at eradicating glued in elements. Given I’m very unhealthy on the latter and merely OK on the former, I went with the trail of least resistance and spent a pair hours masking ‘er up.
I did remove the hood, tail gate, and bumpers mind you, as those were easy to take off. I left the cab in though due to the glued-in windows and figured it was easier to just mask that. Same with the grill and some of the lights.
I carefully removed the Scottsdale badging on the side of the truck, and the Chevrolet raised decal from the tailgate. I’ll be gluing these again on after the paint.
This truck goes to wind up as some type of a Stage 1 Rotten Apple monster truck, so I wanted gun metallic. I went with Tamiya TS-42 Light Gun Metal. It’s an actual beaut, as you get some very good metallic flakes within the paint.
I hit the physique with Tamiya primer first, a number of coats of Light Gun Metal…..after which ran out of TS-42. As it seems, all of my native interest retailers are out of the stuff, so I needed to place an order. Given how a lot I’ve came upon that I like the colour and plan to do extra arduous our bodies on this fashion, I ordered a bunch of it.
Once the UPS man arrives, I’ve received to put another good coat of the stuff down. After that I’m going to strive Vallejo Gloss Varnish to hopefully give it a protecting clear coat.
From there, after I unmask it I’ll be doing a little contact up work with a brush as I’m certain I wasn’t excellent in my masking. After that, I’ll paint the wheels and shocks a vibrant inexperienced earlier than including the Rotten Apple paintings to the physique.
Almost there! Next time you see me talk about the truck, it’ll be the glamour pictures!
Until subsequent time, preserve it on all 4’s!
